Granite Versus Decorative Corian – Which is
Better for Your Kitchen?
The debate between granite and decorin has already been won but as the holidays quickly approach – we’ve decided to revisit this debate to ensure that you have the facts to make the right choice. Now both surface options have their pros and cons from durability to pricing but we have consulted with the best of the best in the industry along with some heavy research and have come up with some major points for you to consider before you make that purchase.
Cost is well won by decorin since it’s a man-made surface containing a large percentage of plastic. Decorative Corian is a mixture of man-made material plastic and polyester with some mineral deposits and so because there are fewer mineral deposits – it costs less – much like styrofoam versus veg-ware. Granite, however, is real stone and so it could also be ‘real money’. However, at Smart Kitchen, we can cut a deal with you when we cut your granite – to make it more affordable if you wish.
Granite is a very hard surface material – if you’ve ever heard the term ‘hard like granite’ you will understand. Decorative Corian however made of man-made material can be easily scratched, bruised or burnt. In many handbooks or care-sheets, you will find that Decorative Corian will not be able to withstand high heat – which unfortunately is quite frequent when we’re talking about kitchens. Sealed granite boasts of being stain, heat, scratch and chemical resistant.
For durability – granite is your surface of choice.
Decorative Corian – a man-made surface benefits from a very wide range of colors and styles. However, the plastic look and light feel of this surface can be a huge turn off for many people.
Granite, because its made of the earth’s natural stone has a variety but a limited number of styles, colors, and patterns. Granite’s shiny and luxury look is what makes it so popular – it feels and looks like the precious stone that it is. It’s a little more expensive and you can definitely see why.
