Reservoir Kitchen Renovation

Reservoir Kitchen Renovation

The team here at Smart Kitchen thrive on a challenge. We love finding ways to overcome restrictions – like a small space or limited budget – to deliver our clients their dream kitchen. And that’s exactly what we did for this client in Reservoir.

While it had been very well maintained, their existing kitchen was extremely cramped and quite outdated. The space was closed off from the rest of the house and the compact floor plan meant cooking was definitely a solo exercise. As the homeowners are avid entertainers, this really didn’t suit how they wanted to live.

Wanting to make sure they got good value for money, the homeowners contacted Smart Kitchen to discuss their requirements. During their consultation with our Preston designer, they stressed their desire for a more open, social space. They also shared their love of contemporary design and their interest in making a serious style statement with their new kitchen.

Based on this discussion, a detailed render of the proposed plan using Smart Kitchen ’s advanced design software was created. In this, it was identified that a wall would need to be removed to separate the kitchen from a neighbouring hallway to increase the overall space. In its place, we suggested adding a large peninsula bench to increase the available storage and create an area for guests to congregate.

The homeowners were very happy with this design which only required a few minor tweaks. With these adjustments made, they signed off on the concepts and gave us the green light to proceed.

To deliver the dramatic look the homeowners were after, Metro cabinets in black were chosen. These pair perfectly with the new darker flooring to give the space a stylishly moody feel. This also helped provide a great contrast against the crisp white of the surrounding walls.

Building on this contrast, two different finishes of Caesarstone Raw Concrete benchtops have been used for the peninsula and Caesarstone Jet Black for along the back wall. In addition to reinforcing the contemporary feel, these choices help add a sense of depth and dimension to the design.

The look has been completed with matt black handles and tapware, which blend seamlessly into the rest of the design. New Westinghouse appliances have also been chosen to tie in with the overall feel of the space.

Optimise functionality by adding a large pantry cupboard to the end of the room. This significantly increases the available storage space and complements the use of drawers throughout the rest of the kitchen area.

And, in a nod to the homeowners’ love of entertaining, a hidden bar cabinet was added under the peninsula bench. This provides the perfect location for all their party essentials while also helping define the new seating area.

While significant work was required to make all these updates, the homeowners could not be happier with the end result. They have already begun making good use of their new kitchen and look forward to making many happy memories in the space.
